Video Recording and Editing on an iPad

This is the approved and supported method for recording and editing videos for classroom use.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Download iMovie, OneDrive, and Microsoft Stream from the App Store if you don't already have them.  All are free and work with iPods, iPads, and iPhones.

  2. After you've recorded your video using your iOS device, you can edit it by opening iMovie and tap continue to start a project.

  3. Tap the + sign to create a new project

  4. Tap Movie

  5. Select one, some, or all of the files you will use in your video.  This can be a mix of videos and photos.

  6. Arrange the files in order on the timeline.  You can preview them above to be sure they're in the correct order.  If you need to join two videos to erase an error and pick up where you left off, select one file at a time and move the yellow bar to erase the part that is no longer needed either at the end or beginning.  You can also insert screen shots from your powerpoint slides or other photos.

  7. Once you've pieced it together, you can tap the share icon at the bottom to save the project to your files on the device or use OneDrive so you can edit it from any iOS device later.

  8. After saving the project you can save the video directly to your photo library by tapping the share button and then Save Video.

  9. Choose your video size.  Usually 720p is plenty but you can choose 1080p or 4k, just know that the file size will be much larger when you beyond 720p.

  10. Depending on the size of the video it may take a couple of minutes to export to your Photo Library.

  11. Once the video is in your photo library you can open Microsoft Stream and use your College credentials to sign in.  Tap the + sign to upload the video.

  12. Select Upload from camera roll.

  13. Tap the video you wish to upload.

  14. The video will begin uploading right away and you can either complete the details here or login to a computer later to add details and publish it.

  15. Check out the Microsoft Stream PD Session video for more information on Stream here.
