How To - Take a Good Photo ID Picture
The following article describes best practices for taking your Photo ID picture. You can see examples below.
Requirements
- A bright room with a lightly-coloured plain wall or light background.
- A newer smartphone or camera.
- Assistance from a second person, if possible.
Lighting Best Practices
- It is always best to have the light facing you. Avoid standing with a light source behind you, such as a window. Even a covered window can cause lighting issues.
- The light should be a few feet away to avoid casting shadows on your face.
Framing Best Practices
- Adjust the camera so it is roughly the same height as you.
- Frame the shot starting mid-chest from the bottom to just above the top of your head.
Subject Best Practices
- Make sure to look at the camera
- Ideally, wear clothing with solid colors or clothing that is subtly patterned.
