The phone has been at the heart of business communications since its invention. But as technology evolves, so do the ways we work. Tools like Microsoft Teams combine communication and enterprise collaboration for seamless operations. Lambton College is pleased to share that our current phone system, with all it’s functionality – and more – is being migrated to Teams for a true single point of communications for the College community.

Information

What is Teams Telephony?

You’re already familiar with computer-to computer voice and video calls - now you will have the additional ability to place and receive traditional dialed telephone calls from Teams. Calling in Teams supports all our current phone system features such as call forwarding and simultaneous ringing, call history and voicemail.
Voicemail in Teams goes directly to your inbox – and includes a recording as well as text translation of the recorded message.

How does this impact me?

  • Your desk phone will no longer be required.

  • You may want a headset for calls. If you would like a wired headset, please submit a ticket via our IT Service Desk Portal: https://lambtoncollege.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/9You will have a dial-pad for calling directly from Teams. (to see your NEW dial pad, sign out of Teams and sign back in).

  • You will receive a new direct dial phone number and no longer need your four digit extension.

  • You can make and receive calls from any device with the Teams app installed.

How do I make my first call?

  1. Login to Teams from any device.

  2. On the left, select Calls.

  3. Type a name or use the dial pad to enter the number, and then select call (no need to dial 9 first)

  4. To use Teams to make a video or audio call, select Video or Audio

What is my new phone number?

You can find your Teams direct dial number (work number) directly below the dial pad from within Teams.

Please update your email signature, business cards and update your contacts to make them aware of your new number. Callers will still be able to use a dial by name directory to reach you.
