Roles and Responsibilities

The following is adapted from the College Compensation & Appointments Council (CCAC), the Ministry of Advanced Education & Skills Development (MAESD) directives and Lambton College Board of Governors by-laws. Board members bring unique and diverse perspectives given the various backgrounds and positions they hold in the community. The individual perspectives of board members need to be tabled during board discussions for maximum board effectiveness. That being said, all board members are expected to act as a cohesive group in the best interest of the college rather than a particular sector of group. The board's roles and responsibilities are:

  1. Be responsible for the college's vision, mission and strategic plan
  2. Appoint the president to lead the strategic plan
  3. Support the president in achieving the college's vision, mission and strategic plan
  4. Ensure the needs of the community are incorporated in its strategic plan
  5. Monitor the college's performance in meeting the annual objectives in the strategic plan and report and publish the results
  6. Enhance the college's public image, including advocacy
  7. Oversee the education program
  8. Ensure financial solvency
  9. Make certain the college is well managed
  10. Be informed and attend meetings

Board members are expected to attend all meetings of the board and any sub-committees on which they serve. At a minimum, board members must attend at least 50 per cent of the regular meetings of the board and not miss more than four consecutive meetings.

The board meets up to eight times a year on a Thursday of the month. Meetings are two to three hours in length and they start at 4:30 p.m.

Sub-Committees

There are two main sub-committees

  • Finance & Property Committee
  • Programs & Services Committee

These sub-committees meet up to eight times per year. Meeting are one-two hours in length. Board members are expected to sit on one of these two sub-committees. There is also a Board Executive Committee, a Nomination Committee, and an Executive Performance & Compensation Committee.
