Provincial Update
Federal election could affect transfer payments, apprenticeship, applied research and indigenous Indigenous Education funding, depending on the results.
Overview of Post-Secondary International Network (PIN)- Attended the PIN Summit. The topic for 5 days was “disruptive education”- micro credentials.
eCampus is under review by the Provincial Government to determine if or how it will continue after March 31st, 2020.

- Enactus Lambton representing Canada for the second year in a row, the defending World Cup champions competed with 32 other international college and university teams before facing off against Germany, Egypt, and the U.S.A. in the final round of live competition. The final decision saw the World Cup awarded to the team from Egypt, with Lambton claiming the second spot. The Enactus Lambton team highlighted the staggering growth of the One Seed Project, which has transformed the lives of 35,738 Zambians in the past year alone. This year, the transformative work of Enactus Lambton has changed the lives of 285,904 people, creating a middle class in rural Zambia by providing financial and food security.
- Six new agreements that will allow graduates to pursue a degree following successful completion of approved programs. Graduates of Lambton’s Photography program will have an opportunity to move on to Sheridan College’s Honours Bachelor of Photography – Degree program. Additionally, New York’s John Jay University has solidified five agreements with the College, which will allow students to obtain a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in their respective field. The new agreements are two years in length and can be completed entirely online. These new pathways are available for graduates of the College’s Fire Science Technology, Police Foundations, or Protection, Security and Investigation programs.Enhancing credit transferability to other post-secondary institutions has been a long-time goal of the College, which has seen a 316 per cent increase in educational pathways agreements since 2013.
- Lambton College hosted the Ontario Regional FireFit Championship. The three-day event kicked off with a Corporate Relay Challenge and hosted teams from Ontario.
- Private Public Partnerships: The college system is hoping to learn if the Enrolment Framework is approved by the end of October.

- A newly formed Innovation Institute announced under the umbrella of Research & Innovation will be launched.
Our Local & Global Community – Promoting inclusivity, fairness and understanding to prepare students for a complex and interdependent world
- EarlyOn Centre: On October 18, the College will host provincial, county, and community representatives to celebrate the grand opening of the Lambton College EarlyON Centre. The Centre is 100% funded by the provincial government with funding flowing from the Ministry of Education to the County of Lambton. Lambton College is the lead agency for the delivery of EarlyON services in Sarnia, Bright’s Grove, Brigden and St. Clair Township. EarlyON is designed to provide a broad set of free programs and resources for parents and their young children. EarlyON Child and Family Centres enhance children’s learning and development, provide support to parents and caregivers, and connect families to community services.
- Moving forward, the Applied Research & Innovation Department at the College will now be known as Research & Innovation. The College is expanding its efforts to carry out “Discovery” research in addition to “Applied” research. Both research streams are executed in partnership with industry and other organizations. The new department title now encompasses both applied and discovery applications.
- Research Grants: The bio-industry received a local boost after Lambton College Research & Innovation announced the receipt of two separate grants totaling $2.7M. The first grant, valued at $1.75M over five years, was received on behalf of the Natural Science & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) - Technology Access Centre (TAC). The funding is meant to support the transition of the College’s current Bio-Industrial Process Research Centre (BPRC) into a Technology Access Centre (TAC). The second grant, also courtesy of NSERC, was presented in the amount of $1M over five years to establish a new Industrial Research Chair for Colleges (IRCC) to form an Advanced Biotechnology and Natural Health Product Research Group.
